Advisory Board

The Global AI Community has grown to more than 200 chapters across over 70 countries. The Advisory Board helps ensure that the direction of the community is shaped by the people who build and support it.

The Advisory Board works alongside the Stichting Global AI Community board and gives chapter leads and long-time community members a formal voice. It provides input on topics such as:

• Global event calendar: event concepts, content, time frames, naming, branding, and how chapters participate.
• Community website and platform: feature priorities, how tools and workflows operate, the experience for chapter leads and members, and opportunities for improvement.
• Partnerships: which collaborations fit the community, how partners can create value for chapters, appropriate visibility and activities, and how community independence is protected.
• Chapter support: onboarding, organizer resources, benefits, communications, recognition, and practical ways HQ can help chapters succeed.
• Regional opportunities and challenges: local needs, barriers to participation, growth opportunities, and regional or cultural considerations that should shape global decisions.

Board composition

The Advisory Board has five seats. We aim for a mix of regions, experiences, and perspectives so the board reflects the global community.

Board composition follows the Global AI Community Diversity Pledge. We actively seek inclusive representation, invite underrepresented voices, and aim for leadership that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve.

Members should be:

• Connected to the community: Active chapter leads or long-time Global AI Community members who understand the experiences and needs of chapters and community members.
• Active in Slack: Willing to participate regularly in the Advisory Board Slack space when elected, respond to discussions, and stay involved between meetings.
• Open and constructive: Prepared to share honest input, listen to different perspectives, respectfully challenge ideas, and help turn feedback into practical recommendations.
• Available each month: Able to prepare for and attend one Advisory Board meeting each month, contribute to the discussion, and follow up on agreed actions.

Expectations

Serving on the Advisory Board is an unpaid volunteer role. By accepting a seat, members commit to contributing the time needed to fulfil their responsibilities throughout the year. This includes preparing for and attending meetings, participating actively in Slack, following up on agreed actions, and communicating promptly when they cannot meet a commitment.

Term

Each seat is held for one year, from 1 October until 1 October of the following year.

Members are expected to participate throughout their term, contribute actively in Slack, prepare for meetings, and represent the interests of the wider community rather than only their own chapter or region.

Nominations

Nominations are open each year from 1 August through 15 September.

You can nominate:

• yourself; or
• another active chapter lead or long-time community member.

Submit a nomination during the nomination period. The selection timeline and updates are shared with chapter leads in Slack.

Meetings

The Advisory Board meets once a month. Meetings focus on current community priorities, upcoming decisions, feedback from chapters, and topics raised by Advisory Board members.

The Advisory Board provides advice and community input to the Stichting board. It does not replace the Stichting board or its formal governance responsibilities.
